In the 1990s Die Laughing brought a new style of female fronted gothic rock to the scene and gained a global fanbase. Combining dark melodic guitars and powerful yet ethereal vocals, the band became one of the iconic goth bands of the 1990′s. Over seven years they recorded 3 albums and toured across Europe. In 1999 the band members moved onto separate projects and Die Laughing remained sleeping, in a deathly slumber for 13 years…
In 2012 the core songwriting partnership of John Berry and Rachel Speight (Iden) reunited to bring the band back to life to celebrate their 20th anniversary. They were joined on stage by new members Mike Uwins (bass) and Bob Malkowski (guitar) to play their 20th anniversary show at Whitby Gothic Weekend on 28th April 2012. The show was quoted by a number of old fans as ‘their best ever’, and won them many new fans with the ‘Tangled’ limited edition single selling out within an hour of the performance.
The band toured with The March Violets on a selection of key UK dates in June 2012 before the members returned to focusing on their other bands and projects. Rachel is now singing and songwriting in the new dark alternative band A Ring of Thorns, whilst John continues to write and play guitar with In Isolation.
